Abstract

1,064,785. Electric selective signalling. FUJITSU Ltd. Dec. 23, 1963 [Dec. 24, 1962], No. 50803/63. Heading G4H. A system for positioning a member positions a detector relative to the member and then positions the detector and member together, compensation means receiving inputs from the two positioning means, and delivering an output to the second positioning means when appropriate. The table (1) of a lathe or drilling machine is positioned with respect to the machine bed (2) by a motor or motors (4), a detector (5) being mounted on the table (1) to sense photo-electrically the magnified image of a scale (6) fixed on the machine bed (2). The photo-electric element in the detector (5) can be moved relative to the table (1) by a motor (10) through gears (11, 9) such movement being accompanied by the production of pulses (at 12), These pulses are counted (18) and the count compared (16) with binary signals derived from the lowest two digits of the required position as set up in decimal form on dials (14). The difference output of the comparator (16) energizes the motor (10). When this difference falls to zero, the table (1) is driven, the detector (5) producing pulses which are counted (22), the count being compared (20) with binary signals derived from the other (five) decimal digits set up on the dials (14). The (difference) output of the comparator (20) drives the table motor (4) until the desired position is reached, the speed of the table (1) being reduced near the end-point. A circuit (23), controlled by the outputs of the comparators (16, 20) causes Œ1 or 0 to be added to the second counter (22) as appropriate to avoid errors. The table (1) may be driven in either direction, the counters (18, 22) being bi-directional. Gates (17, 21) controlled by the comparators (16, 20) control direction of counting.
