Abstract

1,064,707. Shearing. KHARKOVSKY FILIAL INSTITUTA AVTOMATIKI. July 22, 1965, No. 31217/65. Heading B3W. [Also in Division G1] An apparatus for cutting rolled stock 1 into billet lengths comprises a roller table 2 which feeds the stock up to a stop 13 of a weighing machine 3, a shear 8, an adjustable stop 5 which determines the billet length and a conveyer 9 which removes the billets. When the rolled stock strikes the stop 15 telescopic supports 10 are extended to lift the stock off the table 2. Each of the supports 10 is connected to a precision potentiometer 11 which forms part of a bridge circuit (12), Fig. 3 (not shown). Motors (17) operated by the unbalance of the bridges displace the slides of potentiometers (18) of a computer 7, setting them to values of resistance proportional to the loads upon the respective supports 10. The potentiometers (18) form one arm of a bridge circuit (19) which is brought back to balance by a motor (25) which moves the slide of a potentiometer (28). The motor (25) also moves the slide of a potentiometer (29) and thereby produces a signal proportional to the total weight of the stock. A second bridge circuit (20) includes in one arm a resistance (26) which is also moved by the motor (25) resulting in unbalance of the bridge by an amount proportional to the weight of the stock. A second arm of the bridge (20) includes resistances (30, 31) which are set by the motors (17) to values proportional to the loads A 1 , A 2 . The bridge (20) is balanced by movement of a resistance (32) by a motor which also sets a resistance (35) to a value proportional to the length of the stock. A third bridge circuit (21) includes in one arm resistances (36, 37) which are pre-set to values proportional to the required weight and length of a billet, one of these resistances is connected into the arm by contacts (38) or (39) which are operated by a signal from an optimizer (14) described below. Another arm of the bridge (21) includes a resistance (27) which is moved by the motor (25) to a value which is proportional to the weight of the stock. A third arm of the bridge circuit (21) includes a resistance (32) which is moved by the balancing motor of the bridge circuit (20) to a value which is proportional to the length of the stock. The bridge circuit (21) is balanced by movement of the slide of a resistance (49) in the fourth arm of the bridge, and this slide is moved by a servo motor which sets the position of the stop 5. The optimizer (14) comprises a setting and comparison unit (40), a control unit (41), a storage unit (42) and a unit (43) for determining and storing information relating to the remaining stock. The setting and comparison unit (40), Fig. 5 (not shown), comprises a bridge circuit the arms of which include resistances (44) and (45) which are set to values proportional to the required billet weight and length, and the resistances (29) and (35) which are set respectively to values proportional to the stock weight and length, as determined by the bridge circuits (19) and (20). An indicator (46) connected across the bridge of the unit (40) determines the amount and sign of the bridge unbalance voltage. Pulses from the control unit (41) operate stepping switches (47) and (48) which select values of resistances (44) and (45) to achieve most economical cutting of the stock, as determined by the unit (43) which compares the remaining length of stock with the desired number and size of billets. The operation of the shear 8 is also controlled by the unit (41).
