A towel or like suspension device consists of a horizontal rod 1 fixed via a carrier 2 to a runner shoe 3 slidable on a rail 4 by means of rollers (10). The rod carrier 2 has dovetail recesses (13) and dovetail projections (17) so that additional rods can be added to the device by engagement of the dovetail parts. In a modification the runner shoe engages in a rail of C-shape cross-section.
