Abstract
1,064,472. Weighing apparatus; fluid pressure operated. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 3, 1963 [Dec. 4, 1962], No. 45813/62. Heading G1W. [Also in Division G3] Relates to an apparatus for filling containers e. g. beer barrels, with measured quantities by weight which automatically takes into account the tare weight of each unfilled container. In operation, a control valve C. V. is positioned as shown in Fig. 1, so that the tare weight of a cask C applied to a load cell W produces a pressure which is communicated through lines L1, L2 to a pressure adder PA where the said pressure due to the cask is added to a pressure arriving along a line L5 from one or other pressure Regulator PR1 to PR5, (a Regulator is selected according to the required weight of beer.) and the sum of these pressures is applied through a line L4, a valve V3 and a line L6 to the upper side of a differential relay R. A pressure representing the actual weight of the cask would also be applied through a line L3 to the relay R. To start filling the cask the valve CV is changed over to a position shown dotted causing a pressure to be applied to open a supply valve S. V. Simultaneously the valve V3 is closed isolating the line L6, the pressure in this line representing the tare weight plus the predeter- mined weight of beer still being applied to relay R. As filling continues the actual weight develops a pressure at the load cell W which is applied through L3 to the relay R until the pressure in line L3 equals that in L6 (i.e. the actual weight of the beer in the cask equals the required weight). The relay is thus actuated and this changes over the valve CV so that filling stops. The cycle is then repeated for a succeeding cask. The pressure adder PA is described in detail with reference to Fig. 2 (not shown). The fluid pressure system may be pneumatic or hydraulic.
