Abstract

[Also in Division F2] The invention is a combination of motion aggregating mechanisms for positioning an output member in accordance with a multielement input code combination. In Fig. 1 (not shown) a motor (1) drives a cam-shaft (2) via a single revolution clutch (3) to compress eight first members (L1a to L8a) against springs (e.g. 4). Selected sets of four sets of electromagnets are energized (G1 to G4) to close selected coupling members (H1 to H8b) to communicate motion of a selection of the first members (L1a to L8a), occurring on decompression of the springs (4), to respective ends of four motion aggregating levers (T12, T34, T56, T78). The centres of these levers are connected to respective ends of two further levers (T13, T57), the centres of which are connected to respective ends of a last lever (T15), the centre of which rotates a typewheel via a rack and pinion. Four of the first members (L1a to L8a) have one coupling member each, the others each have two in series. The four bit input code may be a telegraph code. The typewheel may also be moved axially (no details) to select one of four banks of typefaces thereon.
