Point discharge electrodes 4 of a device for charging an electrophotographic layer 2 are arranged so that connecting lines between the points form an angle (e. g. 75 degrees) other than 90 degrees with the direction of relative movement between the device and layer 2. The points may be positioned along a straight line.
