Abstract

1,63,776. Film winding mechanisms. EASTMAN KODAK CO. March 13, 1964 [March 16, 1963], No. 10644/64. Heading G2A. Each frame of a film strip has a corresponding aperture, which is sensed by means which then locks the transport mechanism; the lock is released again when the shutter is operated. In the form shown, the film is transported and the shutter set by lever 13 being turned in the direction of arrow 16. The lever, which is pivoted at 20, has gear teeth 21 which, via a pinion 22, drive a rack 23 to the left against a restoring spring 24. During this movement a lever 26 on the rack engages against and rotates a toothed segment 27, which in turn meshes with a pinion 28, so setting the shutter 30. Lever 13 also carries an off-centre shaft 38 which has an angled pawl 40 engaging the teeth of a ratchet gear 42. Coupled to gear 42 is a further gear 44 which drives, via gear 45, a gear 46 coupled to a shaft 48. Thus as lever 13 turns, the motion is transmitted through the gear train to shaft 48. This shaft drives a member 36 coupled to the film take-up spool (not shown). Thus operation of lever 13 both sets the shutter and transports the film 35. Each frame of the film has an aperture 58, in which a sensing slide finger 57 can engage, as in the "set" position of Fig. 3 (not shown). The shutter release button 14 is mounted on an arm 50. When the button 14 is pressed downwards to trigger the shutter, a lug 54 of the arm 50 engages against the sloping edge of a right-angled ear 55 of a lever 52, causing it to turn against a restoring spring 53. This turning movement withdraws the sensing finger 57 from aperture 58. At the same time a lug 62 engages under a lug 64 on arm 50 (position of Fig. 2) so as to prevent a further depression of trigger button 14. As lever 52 is rotated, it causes, via a coupling shaft 66, a lever 68 to rotate correspondingly, lever 68 being retained by a latch 69. A pawl 70, normally locking a ratchet 71 to prevent operation of the film transport shaft 48, is biased away from ratchet 71 by a spring 72, so that transport may take place when lever 16 is operated. When a complete film has been advanced, sensing finger 57 falls once more into the next aperture 58, so that spring 53 is able to pull levers 52, 68 back into the "rest" position. A pin 74 on rack 23 engages latch 69, and pivots it so as to release lever 68 which, as it retracts to the "rest" position, allows pawl 70 to lock ratchet 71 once more against film transport. Fig 4 (not shown) is a further interlocking arrangement.
