Abstract

Novel compounds having the formula <FORM:1063566/C2/1> where R1 is an alkyl radical and Z is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical having at least 2 carbon atoms and 3-methoxy-13-methyl-8,14-seco-gona - 1,3,5(10), 9(11) - tetraene - 14,17-dione, are obtained in a process which comprises reacting 1 - vinyl - 6 - alkoxy - 1 - tetralol with a cyclopentane-1,3-dione. Cyclopentane-1,3-diones are obtained by reacting an alkyl methyl ketone with diethyl oxalate to form a triketoglyoxalate, heating the latter and treating with semicarbazide to form a 3 - alkyl - 2,4 - cyclopentadiene - 1 - semi-carbazone which is hydrolyzed.
