Abstract
The invention comprises the water-soluble salts of 4,5,6-trichlorobenzimidazole and 4,5,6,7-tetrachlorobenzimidazole. The salts may be prepared by the reaction of 4,5,6-trichlorobenzimidazole or 4,5,6,7-tetrachlorobenzimidazole with the appropriate metal hydroxide in aqueous or aqueous-organic solvent media excluding solutions which contain ethanol, or with an aqueous solution of a strongly basic amine such as triethylamine, or by metathesis.ALSO:A process for the treatment of plants, areas or materials comprises treating the plants, areas or materials with a composition which contains as an active ingredient at least one of the compounds 4,5,6-trichlorobenzimidazole, 4,5,6,7-tetra-chlorobenzimidazole and their salts. The invention also comprises fungicidal compositions which comprise at least one of the compounds 4,5-6-trichlorobenzimidazole, 4,5,6,7-tetrachlorobenzimidaxole and their salts admixed with at least one material selected from surface active agents and solid diluents.
