Abstract

A thread brake comprises a rod 98 slidable in a mounting 106 and springs 110, 140 mounted on the rod 98, the spring 110 bearing on the rod and on the mounting 106 and the spring 140 bearing on the rod and on two braking discs 100, 102. In use the thread passes through a gap 12 and is clamped by the discs 100, 102. When it is desired to release the thread a loom part moves the rod 98 to compress spring 110 sufficiently to release the force on the discs.
