Abstract

Belts.-To form the canvas core of a rubberfaced motor-cycle driving-belt, a length of canvas is folded into a flat roll, Fig. 1, and this is passed between rollers to give it the cross-section shown in Fig. 4, the sides of the roll being pressed towards the upper face. The weftthreads on the underside of the core am by this means stretched and those on the upper side, which is flat or slightly concave, are slackened. This enables the belt to pass around a pulley with less strain on the threads of the canvas. One or more open coils of thread D are wound round the core A before it is covered with the rubber E.
