Abstract

1,063,008. Wrenches. R. UHLIG. Aug. 17, 1965 [Aug. 21, 1964], No. 35219/65. Heading B4W. A wrench comprises a spherical rotary head 5 mounted in a free wheeling manner in a cavity in a carrier member 4 having a lever arm 11 projecting therefrom there being provided bearings in the cavity of the carrier member which permit rotating and swivelling movement of the spherical member 5. The cavity in the carrier has wedge-shaped recesses 8, roller bearings 10 being located in the cavities, said roller bearings being urged into locking position by springs 9. Cylindrical bearing recesses (21) may also be provided, each containing a rotatable centering roller (22). The outer ends of the spherical head 5 are flattened and have cylindrical rims 7 projecting therefrom and adapted to receive movement transfer members which are inserted in the channel 6 in the spherical head 5. The carrier 4 and lever arm 1 comprise steel laminµ 1 covered by steel plates 2 of greater thickness, the parts being fixed to each other by screws, rivets, welding or other connecting means. The carrier may comprise an outer annular part surrounding a central annular part (18), Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), both parts being covered by the outer cover plates 2, the inner annular plates (18) being provided with a cam-like projection (24) which fits into a cavity in the outer annular part and holds the inner part in fixed position. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), a detachable torque measuring device (34) is provided.
