Abstract

1,062,615. Filters. T. E. AREMAA. April 24, 1964 [April 24, 1963], No. 17152/64. Headings B1D and B1T. A filtering apparatus comprises a pressure resisting tank with an inlet and the outlets and containing filter surfaces vibrating means being arranged to cause the filter surfaces to vibrate in a direction transverse to the surfaces and means for controlling the flow rate through the inlet and outlets being provided. The filter surfaces may be three double walled cyclindrical elements 8 of filter cloth with closed ends secured to a vibrating shaft 2 rotatably driven by a motor through shaft 4 and flexible coupling 5. Fluid entering through opening 11 where pressure is greater than at the discharge openings 10 and 12 is filtered through the elements and leaves through outlet 10 under the control of valve 36 and bellows compensator 9, the separated particles detached from the filter surfaces being forced to pass towards opening 12 provided with valve 35 by pressure difference. In another embodiment which works as a washing filter, the filter surfaces comprise a plate filter element divided into four sections 37 which lead through openings 38 to liquor fraction pumps 25. Wash water is introduced through line 22 and the washing is carried out by cross current flow, with a line 24 provided for discharge of resulting concentrated filtered liquor. A vent opening may be arranged at the top of the tank.
