Abstract

Hopper wagons.-A travelling charge-car for ore-sintering apparatus of the open-pan type has means for cutting off an even layer of the material and for levelling and compacting the charge, and a hopper controlled by a rotating drum for supplying the bedding material on which the charge is burnt. The car runs on rails at the Hides of the sintering pans being preferably propelled electrically, and carries two hoppers H, H<1>, the former for the ore and the latter for the bedding material. The hopper H is formed with a steep wall e terminating in a cutting edge, and the discharge of the ore is controlled by a pivoted door 21 operated by a hand lever through toggle links 27, 26. The pivot point is so arranged that in no position is the lower edge of the door substantially below the level of the lower edges of extensions w of the side walls of the hopper. The cutting edge, during the movement of the car, takes off an even layer of material, which is then further levelled and compacted by a plate 35 mounted on a shaft 30 and adjusted by a hand lever. The material from the hopper H<1> is fed to the !pan by a rotating roller 10, and the thickness of the layer discharged is controlled by an adjustable plate 5. One end of the roller is mounted in an eccentric bearing which can be turned to bring the roller into or out of engagement with a friction wheel on the axle A of the rear wheels of the car.
