Abstract

106,121. Whitfield, C. May 6, 1916. Materials for making gas, coke, and other products; condensing and washing plant; washers. - Seaweed, sewage sludge, peat, sawdust, &c., descend through a car. bonizing chamber from tray to tray while being heated by direct contact with combustion products. The watery vapours condensed out of the distillates are utilized for cooling the fresh distillates; the non-condensable products may be used as gaseous fuel for concentrating the distillates. In the plant shown, the material passes down the chamber a, and combustion products are supplied from a burner k. The distillates pass through pipes i, m to a washer n and rotary sprayer 2, the water &c. which collects in tanks o, q being pumped to a cooler v and supplied through a pipe x to the sprayer 2 and through a pipe w to the washer n.
