Abstract

1,061,057. Railway control; suspended vehicles. P. E. THOMAS. Nov. 26, 1963 [Nov. 26, 1962], No. 44591/62. Headings B7L and B7N. A conveyer vehicle is movable around a closed path from which it may be switched selectively to any one of a number of stations branched from the path in accordance with the angular setting of actuator discs 11 carried on a rotatable dial 8 of a coding unit 6 or 7 on the vehicle, the discs 11 co-operating with detecting heads 12 disposed around the path adjacent the associated station. As shown, the vehicle comprises a twopart roller 3 running on a rail 4 and having a coding unit 6, 7 at each side, each unit comprising outer and inner rotatable dials 8, 9 of plastics material. The inner dial 9 of unit 7 is connected to the outer dial 8 of unit 6 by a shaft 10 so that setting of each dial 8 to orient the discs 11 in the desired angular position may be effected by manipulation of the unit 7. The detecting heads 12 comprise electronic means 14 which, when energized by appropriately set discs 11 impulse a solenoid to open the associated branch line. The Specification states that the coding unit may control, with or without contact, any form of detecting unit operable by light, sound or magnetic impulses.
