Abstract

A plugger for introducing a plug 12 through a hole 20 in the wall of a pipe 22 to seal the pipe to one side of the hole comprises a supporting assembly 16 to locate a plug 12 on a stem 12a pivoted at 14a to a shaft 14 in a fluid-tight housing 18 which is mounted to abut the pipe wall over the hole and located by contact with the pipe wall opposite the hole in a position such that the plug may be guided by plates 28 to move in an arcuate path from a position in which it can be retracted from the pipe with the said assembly to a position (shown dotted) where the plug is in the sealing position at one side of the hole. The assembly 16 is attached to the pipe after the hole 20 has been bored by known means and is located in position by a foot 24a which abuts the pipe wall opposite the hole 20. The plug 12 as shown has an inflatable seal around its periphery, but it may be of any suitable shape, e.g. a cup. The shaft 14 may be actuated by hydraulic, pneumatic, screw or other suitable means.
