Abstract

1,060,713. Display devices. BARRY STAINES (SALES) Ltd. Feb. 14, 1964 [April 26, 1963], No. 16605/63. Heading G5C. [Also in Divisions F2 and G2] Selected frames from two films 1 are clamped in superposition in a gate 3 for projection (Fig. 6, not shown) on to a translucent screen to form a composite picture. Each film is wound between a pair of spools 2, 5 (Fig. 2) over a sprocket 4 (only one film is shown). Four press buttons (Fig. 5, not shown) enable each film to be moved in either direction. Depression of a button energizes a drive solenoid 25, causing a roller 27 to engage a loose belt (23) (Fig. 4, not shown) between clutch plates (11), (21) giving spool 2 a positive drive from motor (10); sufficient drive being normally transmitted by clutch (19) to tension the film. Simultaneously, index solenoid 65 is energized allowing cam 9, integral with spool 4, to turn, and gate solenoid 72 is energized lifting apart gates 35, 36 which normally clamp the two films together. If the button is pressed momentarily, one film moves on by one frame, after which projection 6 on index bar 7 engages the next indentation 8 in cam 9, and gate 3 is closed. If the button is held down the film moves until the next frame after the button is released. A strip of metal foil is attached near each end of each film, and completes a circuit which stops film movement and warns the operator when the last frame of a film is in gate 3. Pushing both buttons controlling one film would actuate neither drive solenoid 25, 26, but the two buttons may be mounted on a common centrally pivoted lever to prevent such action.
