Abstract

Bipyridyls are prepared by interacting pyridine or an alkyl pyridine and an organo-magnesium halide at elevated temperature and treating the product so obtained with an hydroxy compound or an oxidizing agent, which agent will remove hydrogen or electrons from the intermediate product.
