Abstract

1,060,112. Actuation of switches. WIGGINS TEAPE RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT Ltd. Jan. 27, 1965 [Feb. 20, 1964], No. 7188/64. Heading H2B. [Also in Divisions B6 and G1] A device for closing a switch after an adjustable delay following an initiating signal comprises a disc (18) (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown) driven by a shaft (21) coupled, for example, to sheet cutting and conveying apparatus (see Division B6) and carrying equi-spaced pins (17) near its periphery which can be displaced axially through the disc by a solenoid-operated hammer (23) to act, after rotation of the disc through a predetermined angle of approximately 180 degrees on a pivoted cam (30) and thereby actuate a switch (28). Thus the delay between energization of the solenoid and actuation of the switch varies with the speed of the shaft (21). The solenoid and hammer and the switch (28) are carried on arms for angular adjustment about the axis of the disc (18) to compensate for the fixed delays inherent in the solenoid operation and in apparatus (such as a sheet rejection gate) actuated upon closure of the switch. These adjustments may be made manually (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) or by a speed-compensating device (Fig. 4, not shown) which moves the arms automatically in opposite directions by means responsive to the speed of the shaft (21) and thus of the equipment to which it is coupled (see Division G1).
