Abstract
1,060,012. Rail ballast excavator. V. SEIDL. April 21, 1965 [April 23, 1964], No. 16860/65. Heading E1F. To permit of the passage of rail traffic whilst the ballast excavator is in use the excavator consists of a beam about which arculates a driven scraper chain, the beam being situated in the ballast below the level of the sleepers and extending across the full width of the track to be supported at the end from a pair of beams lying parallel to the track and slidably resting upon the ends of several sleepers at any instant. Mounted on one end of the beam clear to one side of the track is a conveyor feeding ballast from the scraper train to a screening unit which discharges into a conveyor returning cleaned ballast to between the sleepers. The other end of the beam is provided with a box for ballast.
