Abstract

1,059,323. Waveguide switches. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 9, 1963 [Sept. 11, 1962], No. 34699/62. Heading H1W. In a waveguide shutter, the gap between the rotatable and fixed sections is filled with a solid dielectric layer, e.g. Nylon; the layer may be secured to either the fixed or the rotatable sections, and prevents the passage of gas along the waveguide when the switch is " closed," and also prevents sparking between the fixed and rotatable sections when the switch is " open." The dielectric may be loaded with e.g. iron filings, and cooling tubes may be mounted on the outside of the shutter.
