Abstract
1,058,740. Folding fabric sheets. SPINNEREI und WEBEREIEN ZELL-SCHONAU A. G. Nov. 11, 1964 [Nov. 11, 1963], No. 45925/64. Heading D1S. A device for folding a textile article 1 comprises two driven sliders 4, 5 controlled so that the slider 5 places itself over the article 1 resting on a support 3 and subsequently the slider 4 pushes part of the artcle 1 over the slider 5 to form a fold, this action being repeated to form the required number of folds. As shown, the article 1 is of bag shape with an additional turn-over 2 at the opening thereof. The sliders 4, 5 are preferably formed as rakes with the prongs of one being staggered with respect to the other. A lifting rake 6 is also provided. Eccentrics 8, 36, 35, Fig. 1, are mounted on a driven main shaft 7 of the device. The slider 5 is mounted on a carrier 13 mounted in horizontal guides 12, 12' and on vertical guides 11, 11' and is raised and lowered through a roller 9, on a part 10 secured to the carrier 13, engaging the eccentric 8. Horizontal displacement of the slider 5 is effected by an hydraulic cylinder 14 through a lever 15, a shaft 16, a lever 17 and a rod 18 pivoted to the carrier 13. Horizontal displacement of the slider 4 is effected by a cylinder 19 through a lever 20, a shaft 21, a lever 22 and a rod 23 pivoted to a carrier 24 for the slider 4. An independant variation of travel length of the slider 4 during folding is effected through a lever 39 attached to the cylinder 19, a rod 37 and a roller 38 engaging the eccentric 36. This variation of travel length compensates for the thickness of folded material on the support 3. The support 3 is resiliently mounted, this mounting being effected by a weight 25 mounted at one end of a lever 26 carried in a bearing 30 on a lower guide 29 and a lever 27 secured at one end to a joint 31, the other ends of the levers 26, 27 having rollers 28 attached thereto and guided in horizontal slots. The lifting rake 6 is guided vertically by a rod 51 and is raised and lowered by a bell-crank lever 32 swinging about a pivot 33 and having a roller 34 thereon engaging the eccentric 35. In operation, Fig. 2a, the article 1 is positioned on the support 3 with an overhanging fold 40. The slider 5 moves above the article 1 and presses down thereon, Fig. 2b (not shown). The slider 4 moves to the right to form a fold with the article 1 in a treble layer on the support 3, Fig. 2c (not shown). The slider 5 is lifted and withdrawn leaving the slider 4 providing pressure on the article 1, Fig. 2d (not shown). The rake 6 is then raised so that the fold 40 is lifted, Fig. 2e, and the slider 5 moves to the left, the prongs of the slider 5 extending through the gaps in the rake 6, so that the fold 40 is bent over, Fig. 2f (not shown). A subsequent fold is formed by movement of the slider 4 to the right Fig. 2g (not shown). Reciprocation of the slider 5 is continued until the entire article is folded. In a modification (not shown), the fold 40 is bent over after the termination of the folding of the rest of the article in zig-zag form.
