Abstract

Bis - (pyridylmethyl) - amines are prepared by catalytically hydrogenating a pyridylmethylamine at an elevated temperature, preferably 150 DEG to 200 DEG C., using a catalyst comprising an element of the VIIIth group of the Periodic Table of elements. After termination of the reaction, the product may be dissolved in a solvent, the catalyst filtered off and the solvent distilled off to obtain the free bis-(pyridylmethyl) - amine. An acid - addition salt of the bis-(pyridylmethyl)-amine may be obtained by adding an acid to the free amine or to the solution of the amine obtained as above after the catalyst has been filtered off.
