1,057,899. Testing thermoplastic pipes. NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUTE SANITARNOI TEKHNIKI. May 27, 1964, No. 21880/64. Heading G1S. A device for testing thermoplastic pipes 14 for cracking comprises a cell 2 containing an electrolyte, means for supporting mandrels 12 in the electrolyte, means adapted to move the thermoplastic pipes 14 and mandrels 12 relative to one another and an automatic recording system 9, 10 adapted to register the closing of electric circuits between the electrolyte and contacts positioned within the pipes, upon cracking. During testing the cell 2 is lifted through gear means 3, 15 to its upper position against plate 5, as shown in Fig. 1, and pens 10 are actuated to scribe marks on a tape mounted on the drum 9. On cracking of a pipe 14, the circuit between the electrolyte and the core 11 is closed through contacts 13 to actuate a relay to arrest the recording apparatus. The open end of the pipe may be provided with a closure cap and the contacts 13 omitted.
