Abstract

1,057,806. Photographic type-composing. CREED & CO. Ltd. Aug. 6, 1965, No. 33804/65. Heading B6W. [Also in Division G4] Characters are printed on a light-sensitive surface by scanning it in a roster with a beam of light which is switched on and off at appropriate points under the control of signals from an encoder 22, Fig. 2 (not shown), having inputs, one of which is energized to select the character arid outputs P1-P100 which are energized in a pattern according to the character. The outputs are gated out successively by distributed signals from a ring counter 23 driven by pulses from clock 25. The beam of light from lamp 9, Fig. 1 (not shown), is switched off by deflection of galvanometer 13 under the control of the character signals. Galvanometers 16 and 18 give horizontal and vertical displacements to form the character roster. Mirror 20 is deflected to cause successive characters to be properly positioned along a line of the paper 1 and the paper is advanced for line feed by, solenoid 8. The input may be in telegraphic code and re-coded to energize one of the inputs Il-In.
