[Also in Division G4] Amusement apparatus simulating horse racing operates automatically and continuously to pay out winnings at predetermined odds against bets placed. Horses are propelled along a track by endless chains the drives to which are interrupted at random by a uni-selector in series with a mercury switch, until one horse 'wins', and another horse finishes in 'second' place. As shown in Fig. 8 the wiper arm of the uniselector is stepped by a drive magnet SLS DM operated intermittently by a mercury switch SLS dm, and relay DR. Relay MR is also operated intermittently by a contact breaker mercury switch CB dm 2. At each operation of relay MR a second relay SR1. . SR6 will be actuated, depending on the position of the wiper arm SL52. Each relay SR1 . . SR6 when actuated deenergizes a clutch solenoid which interrupts the drive to one of the horses. When the horses in first and second positions reach the finish appropriate relays are actuated to stop the advancement of the other horses and to set up paying out circuits. Figs. 10 and 11 show paying out circuits for two cubicles. A bet placed in the first cubicle (Fig. 1, not shown) for a 'win' or a 'place' closes one of the switches A1-M1 which activates one of the relays 1W1---1W6, 1P1---1P6. A contact in Fig. 10 corresponding to the relay operated is made. Upon closing of the appropriate contacts corresponding to the first and second horses, pins on cams W6<SP>d</SP>--W1/-, P1----P6 will cause the corresponding switches to be closed and thus cause the pay out solenoids to pulse. Each pulse releases a coin to the appropriate cubicle (Fig. 4, not shown). The odds of the winner are determined by a wiper arm ganged with the wiper arm SLS2, which actuates one of three relays Po 6<SP>d</SP>, Po 9<SP>d</SP>, PO 1/- (Fig. 6a, not shown). A clear down relay is then operated to return the circuits to their original state, and upon the cam shaft completing one revolution the clear down relay is released and the drive to the horses is re-engaged to return the horses to the start. Another race is automatically commenced when all the horses are at the start.
