Abstract

Diaryl, di(alkaryl) and aryl/aralkyl sulphides are produced at elevated temperature from aryl or aralkyl monohalides and alkali metal sulphides; a polar organic medium which is an amide, lactone or sulphone is utilized. Examples describe the preparation of diphenyl and di(p-tolyl)sulphides. Other specified products contain alkylphenyl, naphthyl, biphenylyl and terphenylyl groups.
