A buoyancy device comprises an inflatable envelope (1) to be placed around a limb of the user, the envelope having at least one non- inflatable portion (9) extending over a part of that dimension (a) of the envelope which is to extend circumferentially of said limb and over the whole of the dimension (b) which is to extend longitudinally of the limb, the said non- inflatable portion being adapted to lie, when the envelope is inflated, flat against the limb around which the envelope is placed.
