Abstract
1,055,679. Telegraphy. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 18, 1965 [Aug. 20, 1964], No. 35430/65. Heading H4P. [Also in Division G4] A telegraph exchange having a number of incoming and outgoing repeaters comprises a computer which controls reading and writing of telegraph messages at a store. When a repeater receives a character to be passed to the store it emits a signal which, when the computer has completed its present operation. causes a cyclic counter to energize in turn logic circuitry associated with each repeater. When the relevant logic is energized, the counter stops. The logic output causes the computer store address selector to select at least two store locations associated with the repeater. The number stored in the first of these locations indicates the part of the store into which the received character is to be written: this number passes to an instruction register and also is increased by one and rewritten in the first store location. The received character now passes from the repeater to the relevant location in the store. The number in the second location indicates the number of free store locations for that repeater: this number has one subtracted and is rewritten in the second location. The computer main program can now be resumed. The operation for an outgoing character is substantially similar.
