Abstract
1,055,080. Heating or cooling liquids in bulk. B. VIHL. Sept. 11, 1964 [April 27, 1964], No. 37222/64. Heading F4S. The contents of a vessel are heated or cooled by a fluid flowing through a duet formed around the vessel. The duct comprises a wrapping 50, Fig. 9, having a trough-shaped cross-section with outwardly flared edge portions 54 and 56 making an angle, preferably 10 degrees, with a base plane extending between the edges. A heat transfer conduit is formed by welding the wrapping around a vessel 22, Fig. 1, different fluid flow paths being indicated by wrappings 24, 26 and 28 having fluid connections 32, 34 &c. Successive turns of the wrapping are located close together so that adjacent edge portions are attached to each other and to the vessel by a single deposit of weld material, Fig. 11 (not shown). Fig. 8 shows an embodiment whereby an outlet 23 of the vessel 22 is surrounded by a collar 44 having inlet ports 46 and outlets 48 for the fluid from the conduits formed by the wrapping 28, thereby completely surrounding the outlet 23 with the said fluid. Referring to Figs. 2 and 4 (not shown), part of the wrapping 28 is formed by a volute transition piece 30 of spiral form with a gradually decreasing cross-sectional area. Figs. 12, 14 and 15 (not shown) indicate other embodiments of the invention; the wrappings being wrapped in pairs around the vessel and a plurality of conduits formed on top of one another by a series of wrappings.
