Abstract
1,054,962. Hydraulic turbines. SOC. DES FORGES ET ATELIERS DU CREUSOT. April 9, 1964 [April 9, 1963], No.14690/64. Heading F1T. A system for changing over a Kaplan turbine from normal operation to idle operation with no load on a driven electric generator 16 comprises a sluice gate 15 and pivotal runner and guide vanes 1, 6 respectively. Tripping of the generator 16 closes contact 56 and initiates closing of sluice gate 15 by electric motor 21, rotation of which is controlled by an order transmitter 20 driven by electric motor 19 in response to the head across the turbine measured by pickups 17, 18: Simultaneously cam 51 begins to rotate causing abutment 38 on pivoted arm 39 to move upwards under the action of servo-piston 53. Contact 63 then closes and pivoted arm 42 on the guide vane control unit 11 is forced upwards so as to limit the opening of the guide vanes 6. Closure of contacts 63 causes piston 36 and rod 37 of actuator unit 35 to move downwards to urge pivoted arm 24 of the runner vane control unit 4 into a position corresponding to full opening of the runner vanes 1. A spring connection 31 in the linkage between arm 24 and guide vane servo-piston 8 enables this movement of arm 24 to be performed without a corresponding movement of the guide vanes 6. A similar spring connection 50 is provided between arm 42 and arm 46 on the turbine governor 45. When the sluice gate 15 has been lowered to a position dependent on the head, contact 59 closes and contact 56 opens to restore stops 37, 38 to their initial positions so that non-independent control of vanes 1, 6 is resumed under the action of governor 45. The point at which sluice gate contact 59 closes is determined by an additional rack 60 whose position is adjusted in dependence upon the head.
