In a desoldering tool comprising a handle, a heating means and a tip means, with a passageway therein, associated with the heating means, a solder receiver is coupled to the tip means by a thermally conductive tube and is connected to a flexibly walled chamber constituting a source of vacuum. In an embodiment a handle 11, Fig. 1 (not shown), is provided with an outwardly flared end from which extends a conductive housing 14 for an electrical heating element and a heat transmitting member 16 carrying a separate tip 19 is connected to the housing 14 by a knurled nut 17. A passageway 18 in the member 16 communicates with a passageway 21 in the tip and a thermally conductive tube 23 enters the passageway 18 at one end and is secured to a tubular solder receiver 29 at the other end. The receiver 29 is supported below the handle by a hook 32 and carries a coaxial rotatable rubber bulb 43, a scraper cleaning device in the form of a cut-away tube 50 being arranged in the receiver to turn with the bulb. A non-return valve 61 is provided in the end of the bulb remote from the receiver. In operation solder is melted by the tip and is drawn through the receiver and into the bulb when the previously collapsed bulb is released. The cleaning means may be omitted from the tool and in a modified apparatus may take the form of a coiled rod within the receiver extending out through the bulb for operation.
