Abstract

[Also in Division H5] In electrically heated curling tongs comprising a handle 1, and a hollow, metallic heater rod 3, accommodating a heating element and carrying a manually-operated, spring-urged hair-damping bar 9, exchangeable curler sleeves 11, of differing diameters, have a pair of internal webs between which the heater rod is force-fitted. The inner surface of each sleeve, which is preferably of anodised aluminium, is grooved to seat the rod and improve heat conductance, and the outer surface of each sleeve has knurled seatings for the clamping bar which is urged to closed position by the other end of a resilient stop 7 limiting pivotal opening movement of the bar by finger pressure on the stop 6 Insulated leads of a three-conductor cable pass through a rubber sleeve 12 to insulated soldered terminals 25, 26 for connection to a looped resistance heater 23a, 23b enclosed in a resilient heat-resistant tube 24 anchored in the heater rod, the earthing conductor of the cable being connected to a suitable metallic part such as the heater rod or the metallic sleeve 2 thereon.
