Abstract

An apparatus for tagging tubes prior to drawing comprises a first tool 12 having a part 15 which forms an abutment for the tube, and a second tool 11 having a tapered recess 18 which collapses the end of tube 16 when the two tools are moved together. As shown, the tool 12 remains stationary whilst the tool 11 is raised by an hydraulic ram 13. One side of each of the tools has a flared portion 17, 22 which avoids an abrupt change of diameter of the tagged end and the recess in the lower tool has a pair of parallel sides 20 connected by a radiused portion of the same radius as the tagged end of the tube. When the tube is collapsed opposite sides fold inwards forming folds 23, 24, Fig. 2 (not shown) which ride over each other.
