Abstract

1, 054, 248. Proximity detector. BURNDEPT Ltd. Aug. 26, 1963 [ Aug. 24, 1962], No. 32705/62. Heading G1N. [ Also in Division H3] A Piezo-electric crystal 20 may be inserted in the oscillator circuit of an electronic proximity detector either where shown or in jack 22, so that the circuit will oscillate either because of the presence or because of the absence of material (e. g. water) in the neighbourhood of a capacitive probe connected to a socket 18 in an L-C circuit 12, 14, 16. When the circuit oscillates, a voltage is produced across a coil 32 and a transistor 30 energizes a relay 40. The detector may be made to "fail safe" by arranging that a danger condition which it is to detect shall lead to de-energizing of the relay.
