Ceramic articles are made from lead titanate zirconate, alkaline earth e.g. barium, calcium or strontium stannates, titanates or zirconates, precursors thereof, titanium dioxide or mixtures thereof by shaping with an inorganic, and optionally an organic, binder and sintering the shape, the inorganic binder being an alkaline earth metal hydroxide or nitrate. Specified binders are barium hydroxide, and barium, calcium or strontium nitrate, used in an amount 0À15-1À0% by weight of the ceramic material. The organic binder may be methyl cellulose and/or starch. The inorganic binder is stated to improve mechanical strength on firing between 400‹ C. and 700‹ C.
