Abstract
Gasoline and fuel oil are obtained from a reduced crude oil by heating and flashing in a low pressure zone to obtain a heavy residue and a gas oil which is subjected to thermal cracking or vis-breaking the effluent being fractionated to obtain gasoline product, heavy gas oil bottoms, at least part of which are recycled to the flashing step, and an intermediate fraction which is blended with the heavy residue for use as a fuel oil. The heavy gas oil is preferably mixed with the feed and passed through the heater to the flashing step; if desired part may be also blended with the heavy residue instead of recycling. The process is particularly suitable for Sahara crudes and results in a particularly stable fuel oil.
