Abstract

1,053,483. Valves. LEONARD VALVE CO. June 19, 1964 [July 24, 1963], No. 25399/64. Heading F2V. In a thermostatically regulated hot and cold fluid mixing device, a single handle controls fluid inlet valves and also positions a thermally sensitive device to control the temperature of the mixed fluid. Hot and cold water inlet valves H and C are simultaneously opened upon rotation of handle 150 and spindle 51 threadedly engaged with yoke 125 whereby spindles 132, 142 fixed to the yoke 125 are displaced within fixed sleeves 90, 101 to move packing 135, 145 out of engagement with seats 100, 112. Hot and cold water flows respectively, via passages 98, 93 and 110, 104 to outlets 120 and 121 of a sleeve 115 and into a mixing chamber therearound for discharge through a mixed fluid outlet. The outlets 120, 121 from sleeve 115 are controlled by a thimble 123 slidable thereupon by a ball 124 and socket 82 engagement with a member 80 which is rotatable upon spindle 51 and within a slot 79 of which is attached one end of a bimetallic coil 76 connected at 77 to another bimetallic coil 75 attached within slot 75 to a member 62 fixed to rotate with spindle 15. The thimble 123 blocks the hot water outlet 120 during initial rotation of the handle 150, from engagement with a stop 153, to the open position of valves H and C until it is further rotated to a desired temperature setting position indicated by pointer 151, whereupon outlet temperature is regulated by the bimetallic coils.
