Abstract
1,053,456. Brazing. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE RADIOLOGIE. April 5, 1965 [April 3, 1964], No. 14415/65. Heading B3R. In a method of joining two dissimilar metals to form a hermetic seal a metal body 4 is disposed between the parts 1, 3 (Fig. 1, not shown) to be sealed and the said parts and metal body are heated in a jig having a spring 7 urging them together. The metal body 4 is capable of forming a eutectic with one of the parts at a temperature below the melting point of either part and the temperature to which the parts are heated to form the seal is higher than the temperature at which the said eutectic is formed but lower than the melting point of either part. As shown a beryllium sheet 3 is attached to a stainless steel plate 1, for example in an X-ray tube, and a sliver of titanium is used for the metal body 4. The heating may be carried out in a vacuum or in an inert gas atmosphere.
