Abstract

1,052,931. Treating rubber latex skim. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Jan. 23, 1964 [Feb. 23, 1963], No. 7374/63. Heading C3E. Rubber is recovered from natural rubber latex skim by a process which comprises adding to the skim a proteolytic enzyme and allowing digestion to take place to decompose proteinaceous material in the skim, reducing the ammonia content of the skim by means of a stream of air and stirring, adding a sugar and continuing the digestion process, transferring the digested skim into coagulating tanks, allowing the rubber to coagulate and separating the rubber coagulum. The sugars exemplified are sucrose, glucose and lactose although fermentable carbohydrates such as tapioca flour, rice flour and starch may be used. Specified enzymes are trypsin and papain.
