Abstract

Compounds of formula R2N-Ar-(CO2R1)n are prepared by reacting H2N-Ar-(CO2R1)n with ROH in presence of I2 or a C1- 8 alkyl iodide at 150-250 DEG C. under superatmospheric pressure; R is C1- 3 alkyl, R1 is C1- 18 alkyl or cycloalkyl, Ar is aryl and n is 1-3. Examples describe the production of ethyl p-diethyl-aminobenzoate, dimethyl 5 - dimethylamino-isophthalate and methyl 5-dimethylamino-2-naphthoate.
