Abstract

1,052,523. Detecting neutrons. VAKUTRONIK VEB. Feb. 26, 1964, No. 7982/64. Heading G6P. In a humidity measuring device, fast neutrons are scattered by the moisture hydrogen atoms and the slow neutrons so produced generate a current from the reaction :- B<10>(n,alpha)Li<7>. The ionization chamber is mounted between the fast neutron source and the material under test. The fast neutron flux passes through the chamber into the material. Neutrons backscattered by the hydrogen in the test material return into the ionization chamber and react with boron located as a coating on electrodes.
