Air is fed to a motor vehicle passenger compartment through ducts 16 terminating in nozzles (Figs. 7 and 8) on the facia which are each universally rotatable to produce a convergent or divergent air stream. Each nozzle comprises an annulus 21 having an outer spherical surface supported in a flexible annulus 29 with the interposition of felt rings 30. Two circular vanes 22 are provided in the annulus 21 to close the duct on suitable rotation of the nozzle which also includes two inclined vanes 24 to give the convergent or divergent stream for nozzle positions differing by 180 degrees. The flexible annulus 29 is fitted inside a ring 27 which is fitted over the end of the duct and held in place on the facia by a spring 28. Air is fed to the nozzles from an outlet 8 of an air supply and heating unit (Figs. 1 and 5) which also supplies air through an outlet 7 and ducts 15 to the windscreen and through an outlet 9 to the feet of a vehicle occupant. Air is fed to the unit by a pair of centrifugal rotors 3 and the unit includes a heater 5 fed with coolant from the vehicle engine. A valve 4 is pivotable manually between a position in which all the air passes through the heater (Fig. 1) to a position in which it covers the entrance to the heater to pass cold air through the unit. A valve 10 controlling the outlet 8 and a valve 6 at the outlet of the heater are connected for conjoint pivotal operation by a single control member. The latter is movable to four positions corresponding to the valve 6 closing passage of air from the heater, allowing air flow from the heater to the outlets 7 and 8 but closing the outlet 9, fully open, i.e. against the lower wall of the unit, and a position partially closing the outlet 9. The corresponding positions for the valve 10 are closed, partially open, closed, and fully open.
