Abstract

1,052,211. Reciprocating pumps. MASSEYFERGUSON Inc. July 25, 1963 [Aug. 3, 1962], No.29417/63. Heading F1A. A radial multi-cylinder pump is supplied with hydraulic fluid by a gear pump 14 and delivers to a variable demand 60 such as an automatic transmission for road vehicles. The inlet pressure is governed by an adjustable spring loaded valve 22 and the outlet pressure acts upon a piston 46 in a chamber 52. The piston 46 bears on a valve member 40 and an increase in delivery pressure will move the member 40 so as to throttle the pump inlet valve port 64. An excessive build up of delivery pressure opens a valve 86 and pressure liquid flows into a chamber 82 to move the member 42 so as to close the valve port 64. The chamber 82 is connected to a sump 10 through a connection 88 and a valve 90 which includes a restricted orifice 92 to damp any tendency of the member 40 to oscillate during rapid pressure changes. The demand 60 may represent closed circuit hydraulic devices exhausting through a connection 62, open circuit devices exhausting through a connection 63 or a combination of both types of devices.
