Abstract

In a method of forming sets of two or more sheets of paper, the sets are arranged in a stack and an adhesive applied to one edge of the stack, the absorbency of the sheets being arranged so that adhesive is absorbed into the edges of the sheets which are to be joined together but not sufficiently into the outer surfaces of the outer sheets of each set to an extent that the sets cannot be easily separated. The outer sheets comprise hard sized sheets or have non-absorbent surfaces on the outer or both sides. In a modification, all the sheets of each set are of the same type and density, the " non-absorbent " sheets being obtained by arranging the grain direction parallel to the gummed edge and the " absorbent " sheets obtained by arranging the grain direction normal to the gummed edge. The sheets may carry water marks indicating the grain direction.
