Abstract
1,051,291. Continuous casting. SCHLOEMANN A.G. June 23, 1965 [July 3, 1964], No. 26529/65. Heading B3F. In a cooled continuous casting mould having at the upper end of its mould cavity a graphite insert (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown), the insert is positioned with clearance in an open annular recess in the mould body. The clearance space is filled, by pouring or tamping, with a material having good heat conducting properties. The filler material may include copper powder (grain sizes given in Specification), graphite powder or a combination of both and may be pressed into the clearance by a member 4 (Fig. 3, not shown) or vibrated to effect compaction. Alternatively, the clearance space may be filled with a eutectic Sn/Zn alloy. To control the quantity of cooling water flowing through the passages 16, members 20 are located in the passages 16 with clearance to restrict the water flow.
