[Also in Division B5] An adapter unit for converting a chain saw machine to a rotary saw or cutter comprises a spindle rotatably mounted in a bearing 26 and adapted to carry a rotary cutter 28, such as a circular saw or grinding disc, the bearing being carried by an arm adapted to be mounted on a chain saw motor unit 10 in place of the chain and guide bar unit, the adapter unit having driving means for transmitting the disc from the motor unit to the spindle. The chain saw machine has a petrol engine which drives a centrifugal clutch 13, Fig. 1 (not shown), having an output shaft for driving a saw chain 19 around a guide bar 17 secured to a tensioner bracket 16 by bolts 18. The chain and guide bar unit 17, 19 can be removed from the machine by releasing the bolts 18 and replaced by the adapter unit which has an arm 25, Fig. 5 (not shown), for mounting on the bracket 16 by the bolts 18. The outer end of the arm has twin bearings in a casing 26 for rotatably supporting a spindle for a circular saw, grinding wheel or diamond lapping wheel. The spindle also carries a V-pulley 22 engaged by a belt 23 which also engages a pulley comprising two halves 20, 21, the latter embracing the chain sprocket 15 and being mounted on splines on the output shaft 14 of the centrifugal clutch. Guards 29, 30 are provided for the cutter and belt. The lubricant supply means of the machine may be adapted to supply lubricant to the cutting wheel of the unit. Guides or skids may be provided on the engine unit and/or the arm. The adapter unit enables the machine to be used for cutting metal or stone.
