Abstract
1,051,254. Springs. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. July 20, 1964 [Aug. 8, 1963], No. 31375/63. Heading F2S. [Also in Division F1] In a coil spring of the kind in which the overall diameter of the spring varies from end to end the parts of the spring which are of greater overall diameter are formed of wire having a greater cross-sectional area than those used for forming the parts of the spring of smaller diameter so that the rating of the spring is substantially constant throughout its length and the respective distances between the convolutions of the spring remain equal irrespective of changes in load on the spring. As shown the springs 19 loading the plungers 13 in an hydraulic pump or motor 10 each have a free length of 2À6inches with a mean diameter of approximately 0À5 inch and a wire diameter of 0À072 inch for 2 inches of its length, the remainder 0À6 inch having its mean diameter increased uniformly to 0À8 inch and the diameter of its wire uniformly increased to 0À09 inch.
