Abstract

[Also in Division E1] In a cargo ship which includes conversion structure for changing the freeboard rating of the ship from tanker freeboard to steamer freeboard, the conversion structure comprises two longitudinal bulkheads 32, Figs. 3 and 11 (not shown), extending through the cargo holds and from tank top 23 to upper deck, the longitudinal bulkheads having a plurality of openings 36 adjacent the tank top 23 and door plates 37 for removably covering the openings in liquidtight relation. The door plates, which are removable from the hold by deck crane line and hook attached to lifting tab 71, are secured over a gunning groove to the longitudinal bulkheads by bolts in sockets 43. Brackets 61 and holding arm 62 enable the door plate to be remotely released when the bolts are withdrawn. In other embodiments the closure means consists of power-activated doors.
